2018 is here....

Well a new year and I have like every year the intentions to post more which never seems to happen every year I say it.

Its kind of a sad place my blog now like so many others which used photobucket as there third party poster of choice. If you didnt know after years of using the site for free photobucket without warning cut all third party links unless you pay something like a $400 a year fee.  Honestly I say its there site so let them. My issue is more like the now warning it was going to happen and its not the eaisest site to download your pictures back off..

Maybe my resolution should be the fix up the blog and its picture's.

Well this year of 2018 I have somethings I want to do.

In no real order..
1. Complete death guard from new box set.
2. Paint up mortarion.
3. Paint up new necromunda minis.
4. Do a diorama.

Learn to use my air brush is there too..

Gloomhaven

I was lucky enough that someone liked my painting and had a few gloomhaven mintiures which I happliy got to paint.

I worked up the bases with some textured paste trying to make them different and the same at the same time.  I found a painting tutorial on youtube which as awesome so i did a three phased grey blend on the base.

I am looking forward to trying this with a few different colours and shades.

Finished Sons of Horus Contemptor

Not only has it been some time since I have posted the whole issue of photobucket changing its system has left all my previously posted without there original pictures. So with all of this I will go back when I have time...

Now I have finished my first Contemptor and I will show a little of the progress I had before the final.

This was fun to do with the rusting effect althought I am not 100% happy with the main paint colour its only its lack of shading which I will fix the next time I paint Sons of Horus.

But truely for me I am happy with the final outcome.

Dark Angel Dread

Well as I seem to be in a bit of a groove hobby wise at the moment I thought I was use the rusting effects that I am using for the Contemptor on a Dark Angel Dreadnought.

I bought second hand a AoBR Dread and did a little conversion work on it.

So when I converted up this little fellow I did so not knowing what chapter he would be for but things go as things go and Dark Angels it is.  I want to do my Dark Angels all rusted and corroded as if they are fighting on a world either corrupted or toxic..

I did the three step rust paints I have from Vallejo and then salt chipped it. In the end the main armour I love the look of.

I Still have to paint up the metallic parts and details. I also have to figure out a good basing effect to give it a toxic world look.. 

Sons of Horus Contemptor Part 2

Well after some things and considering that I did to the resin in acetone I thought a damaged rusted look was the way to go. So after diving into YouTube for a while I found a way of starting what I was and adding the rust for the first paint coat.

 With the three colours of rust from the Vallejo Panzer Ace range I got the effect I was after.

Now all I have to go is the salt chipping...

Sons of Horus Contemptor

I had a friend find a Sons of Horus Contemptor at a convention two years back I think it was. ON our way home he thought about it and offer it to me for what he paid for it so I said yes.

I had this one sitting around and I thought it was about time I did something with it so I worked on the legs and based them.

The torso which is just sitting on the legs in the picture I realised that the shoulder pads had been glue on the wrong sides so I had to figure out how to remove them to fix up this issue.

I used nail polish remover to get the shoulder pads off the miniature. I had a spare foot which I left in over night with no issues to the resin. After 30 minutes of the torso being in I touched it and damaged the top of the exhaust on the model. I pulled it out right away and the up shot being I lost the ridges around the exhausts a some of the fine detail got a little smudged but got the pads off..

Must be the fun of buying second hand goods..

Guess I am going to have to up my game and try rust, salt chipping and battle damage..

Still have to get some magnets too as I have never tried that before...

Orlocks Underway

Well the Orlock Necromunda gang I am painting as a gift for a mate is started and the first 10 are complete.

I am happy with the way they came out just about 18 more to go.. So glad I love Necromunda..

Were did the time go....

Well I know I have been slack with not only posting here but also with my hobby.  The world or life or whatever you want to call it came knocking and the up shot being my hobby time suffered and died for a long time...

But after a move from one town to other, settling in and up packing all my hobby stuff..  well unpacking most of it I have gone back to spending time in the hobby.

First up it was what started out as a 5 man gang for Necromunda for my son turned into a 15 man gang.. but that lead me onto an Orlock gang from Necromunda that I had that was from a mate I had to paint for him..

So with all this in mind.. I swear to myself I am going to post more..

2015 is here and changes are upon us

Well after a little brake from hobbying I am hopefully back into the swing of things. Christmas has come and gone and the wife's furniture rearrange of the house has been completed which has moved me from a dark corner downstairs to a lovely lit landing upstairs.

All I have to do now is decide what will stay here and what will be stored downstairs. I have currently far to many options.

Back into Metal

I know I am slack when it comes to posting and I have been hard at work on Grey Knights as allies for for IC Hobby Challenge this year. I have caught the Grey Knight bug for at least the foot troops and I found some nice second hand metal Knights for $20AU and now its time to paint them. I got carried away and undercoated them before I converted up some backpacks for them.

I am going to make a massive effort to make sure I at least follow these guys painting and basing.

End of the Month Update

October is about to end and with this I am heading into the last month of The Independent Characters Hobby Challenge for 2014.  I am about 90% finished on my last squad of Grey Knight allies which is my interceptor squad. These guys are coming along nicely and I am also almost finished my second Grey Knight with twin linked autocannons and about 40% into a Grey Knight Champion.

I realised that really for a 1500 point Grey Knight army on foot I only need to complete a 5 man strike squad, a 5 man heavy weapons squad which I still haven't decided what they will be carrying and a 3 man paladin squad for the fun of it.. I am going to try to get these done before December which will be a nice personal challenge for myself.

Grey Knights on the move

I have been working on my Grey Knights as allies for my Crimson Fist for the IC Hobby Challenge. As of my last post which showed my Librarian I have completed one Dreadnaught, Techmarine and Terminator squad and I am currently working on a 6 man interceptor squad.

I am really loving the look of these guys and although I only have the interceptor squad to go to complete the challenge I will attempt to complete at least the foot element of this army before christmas.

I have completed my first/test interceptor.

I know I said it before but its so true I am really loving the look of these guys.

Wet Palette

I have been working away at the IC hobby Challenge and I now have my Grey Knight Librarian finished.

I have really enjoyed painting this guy and I have even enjoyed it more because I have finally gotten around to trying a wet palette and I do not know how I have gotten along without one for so long.

I have a mate that make me up one what must have been well over a year ago and it is one of the best gifts I have ever been given.

It is so simple in design and as you can see from the picture above it is a great travel palette too.

Its a nice case with two sponges and some baking paper on top and for all that don't know you just wet the sponges and top it off with the paper that you use like a normal palette but your paint doesn't dry out like a normal palette in fact when I took the picture I have paint in for only 18hrs and it was still workable..

A Little Side Track

I have as you would of read been undertaking The IC Challenge and enjoying for 2014.  The first half of the challenge was to complete a 1000 point Zone Mortails force which got me thinking.  Like some gamer, not all, I am a hoarder by nature and I love to collect bits and piece. I have a few miniatures of most of the 40k armies and I have been thinking about looking at allied forces but now I am thinking Zone Mortails might be the way to go...

Now I was thinking of starting with Battle Sisters as I new I had about 20 or so and a Penitent Engine so I started going through all my boxes and little stashes and so far I am at the below list.

Ok so I had a little more than I thought which was funny as I kept looking for other things and kept finding one or two sisters in odd places.  I am missing a few backpacks and the top of the Rhino for the Immolator but I am thinking this isnt a bad start.  

I just had to share as sometimes you really dont know what you have until you look....

Everything is slowly coming together...

My hobby time has been short of late but I am still finding time to continue my work for the hobby challenge I am currently undertaking. It most likely helps that after building and painting up two tactical squads for my Crimson Fist army that I am heading into some Grey Knight allies which at around 800 points worth is a Librarian, terminator squad and two dreadnoughts that will be the next 4 months of official painting.

My Libby is coming alone well so far.

He is the only Fine cast mini I currently own and was bought a few years ago which may explain the few little bubbles that were in him.  I replace his right arm with one from the Grey Knight terminator box and added the storm bolter from there as well.  It didn't seem right to paint him up as a Grey Knight and now have the wrist mounted storm bolter.

After the undercoat I painted him up with Boltgun Metal which had flow aid added to it. I then did a double wash of Secret Weapon blue/black which I really liked. I then dry brushed Boltgun Metal over the mini and they a real dry dry brush of Mithrial Silver.

My standard gold was used and the scrolls and paper are Model Air light brown with a dark sepia wash. I had done the purity seals red the start with but with the red robe the green looks much better.

I have base coated the sword black but I am up in the air if I should be a blue or purple lightning effect on it. I am leaning more for the purple but that blue is nagging me...

I still have a lot of work on him as I need to do some layering and the stone on the left shoulder.  I am also going to base him as I base my Crimson Fist as they are going to be allies but it wasn't quiet what I wanted so I might have to incorporate some daemony bits as well.

All in all I am happy with the Librarian so far..

Will post more as he gets some more work done on him.

A change in the Wind!

It has been a hobby life time since I have last posted here and I need to get back into the habbit of it.  Since the last time I posted a great deal has happen as I joined The Independent Charaters Hobby Challenge for 2014 and added another 1000 points to my Crimson Fist with a Zone Mortails force.

There was a little stumble at the start of the challenge but by the end of June I had all my force complete. I have another 1000 points to go with the challenge which for this month of July I completed a Terminator Captain.

Now all I have to do is about 800 points of Grey Knight allies to complete the challenge and also to finally get around to painting at least some of my Grey Knights I have had sitting around for more years that I can rememeber.

My other current major project if a Wolf Daemon Prince of Nurgle which is on current hold until I can get some hobby time with a mate to use his tentacle maker.

I am liking the look of him so far and now considering making him the head of a Zone Mortails force.

As I seem to be back in the swing of hobby time I will keep this blog posted with all my hobby goodness.

Overload

Hobby is for me somewhat of a stress relief and just a get away from the world and enjoy myself. In mid-September my wife let me spend more money in one go on my hobby than I have ever done before in all my life.

This posed an issue I have never come across before... Where to start and what to do... In spending so much and obtaining so much it caused for me an overload and stalled my hobby time as I have no idea were to start.

Lucky for me I had the Imperial Vox Cast forums to fall back on and listed up what I had, that I want to start at 1850 points and let Dawson do his rock and roll.

This gave me the chance to sit back and not stress over it all and in truth I am looking forward to the banter that will come with the list and its changes.

Wow…. It’s been so long

I cannot believe it has been over a year since I have posted on the blog. I have been on the forums for Imperial Vox Cast and The Independent Characters doing all my posting I haven’t been here.  That needs to change even if it’s just a fortnightly or monthly hobby update.

There has been a great deal of changes in my life in the past year but the major has been in the last seven months. I was working as a timetabler at a University in Sydney but due to some over spending in the last two year by the CV (only fifth Million not that much really) hundreds of people across over 20 campuses and 3 states were made redundant and my whole departments was o longer needed.

Short version my wife went back to work and I am now a stay home dad of two. My five year old son is happy as when his sister goes for her nap there is a good chance of a game of Munchkin or Hero Quest (love that old game) at least they are the popular two at the moment with an old star wars board game that is just a little younger than me and I am almost 40.

Well now I am guessing for most of you guys out there you are going score all that hobby time. Now there are a few out there which know the truth but let me say it anyway that is so far from the truth it would make you cry.  I have been working on a 1500 point Blood Angel army for my son since February and with one tactical squad and a priest to go I am going to be so happy when I finish it and stop painting red…

My wife before she went back to work let me have a hobby order so big it made me scared.

Now this had its issues as after getting this order in the mail I then went to a convention and picked up second hand a metal Thunderfire Cannon and a Whirlwind. Ok you say that’s not to much so far but for me I then added 4 Rhino/razorbacks, a Land Raider Crusader, terminators, 2x Assault marine box sets, and near to 40 space marine legs and enough parts to make them into anything I need with a head of other stuff thrown in and I went into shock overload from the options that I had.

One thing is clear to me though and that is I will add to my little Crimson Fist Army to make it into a total company.

Well that is enough raving for now and its back to being dad and until next time lets see what I can get done.

5 Days before Christmas

Well Christmas is almost upon us and I am hoping that I will get hobby time.  I have been trying to get the time to clean up, glue together and base the 1500 points of Blood Angels I am creating for my son’s 5^th Birthday in February. This might seem a long time away but with work being a hi-stress undertaking at the moment, the new addition to the family at 5 months now and I am going back to study in about a month and a half I may well be cutting it fine.

All in all I think I have done well so far with the Death Company, Terminator’s, Devastator’s  ready to undercoat, the assault squad needing helmets and there jump packs just cleaned up a little, my Librarian and captain ready to go and my Tactical squad and Death Company Dreadnought hopefully finished in the next few days.

One this is all done then I have the Army Painter red primer to base coat the models and once I have added some extra base colours then secret weapon miniatures soft body wash to lay down.

I want to try a few new painting tips with these models as I have been watching Awesome Paint Job and Girl Painting on YouTube.  I wish I had an air compressor and air brush but that will come hopefully in about 6 to 8 months.

I am hoping to have some new pictures posted in a week or so.. Lets see if Christmas miracles happen!
